General

  1. Beware ... on New Year's Eve at midnight LST will change to January 1st of the just finished year. Use the DATE command to reset the year.
  2. Turn off frequency switching before changing; frequency, harmonic, lock, and VLSR. (Type FSOFF).
  3. If you slew to a new source, make sure that you specify a new reference position. This may be done by typing SAME (which makes the MAIN and REF positions the same) or REF [coordinates]. Otherwise, when you type REF STAR CAL......
  4. If you want results sent to the printer, (RESULTS A06) and the printer is off line, the system will hang up. Make sure that the printer is on, on-line, and clear the printer buffer by hitting the reset button on the little black box (QUADRAM Box) near the printer.
  5. If you accidentally hit the PRINT SCREEN key or $the <CNTR> PRINT$ SCREEN key on the SPA terminal, all output on the text screen will be printed to the laser printer. The cure is to $hit <CNTR> PRINT$ SCREEN again.
  6. If you think the dewar is warming up because of:
    $\bullet$
Climbing $T_{sys}$ (with the weather remaining the same)
    $\bullet$
    An over temperature alarm
    $\bullet$
    A power outage.
You can determine whether or not the dewar is REALLY warming up by checking the dewar temperatures on the platform. The SEQUOIA temperatures (actual and nominal) are displayed on the SEC (in the dog house) and the MRC temperatures are under the platform phone.
  7. CFAC: Check to see if it is at the nominal value. Look at SCREEN 1. The nominal value is CF 1.00.
  8. RAW/CALI: Look on SCREE1 at the top right hand corner box (*for CALI).
  9. TOL (pointing TOLerance) is nominally set to 1.5.
  10. HPX and HPY: After typing FIVE, check that HPX and HPY are appropriate for the RCVR. The nominal 3mm HPX=HPY= 0.008, and the nominal 2mm HPX=HPY= 0.006. (HPBW $= 1.5 ^{_o}/\ f (GHz))$
  11. When Frequency Switching : Make sure that you are on MAIN.
  12. Is Frequency Switching mode off? Type FSOFF or FOFF $= 0$ to be sure.
