Tracking Program Start-Up

After the MODCOMP has been turned on, and the system has been booted, the tracking programs themselves must be activated. The normal tracking program startup procedure for observers is straightforward and simple:

  1. Depress CONSOLE INTERRUPT on the computer console (far right-hand switch on bottom row of switches) OR type Control-A on the LEAR keyboard.

The computer will respond with a line of output,

    "/IV/B /" or something similar

Now you have approximately 10 seconds to enter your command to initiate the tracking programs.

!!! If no entry is made within 10 seconds or so, a backward slash "ïs written and you must re-depress CONSOLE INTERRUPT or CONTROL-A to enter your command.

  2. Type: //STP
The STP command initiates the procedure to actually start the individual programs which are collectively known as the "tracking programs." As each program is loaded, a brief message is printed. When the process is completed, the VT100 screen in the control room should be updating and the tracking programs will be ready for use.

!!! When tracking programs are started, they use the set of parameters that were last in use, with the exception that the system is started up in HALT mode with all system ALARMs turned on. System SENSORs are initialized, like most other program variables, to their previous values.
