Spectrometer Configuration

Once the user has entered the SPEC mode, the desired spectrometer configuration needs to be defined. The user is allowed to set up four spectrometer configurations which will produce four separate scans for each observations.

Setting the spectrometer configuration is done with the CONF keyword. To simply view the present spectrometer configuration on the operator's console, the user simply types CONF with no arguments. To reinitialize a given configuration, the user issues the CONF command with a first argument identifying which configuration and a second argument of RESET, e.g. to clear or reinitialize the first configuration setup
CONF 1 RESET
In order to return to one configuration from a multi-configuration setup, the user must individually clear each and then set the first configuration. To set a configuration, the user issues a CONF command followed by a first argument identifying which configuration and a second argument of string identifiers for each spectrometer is used in conjunction with the CONF keyword. Legitimate spectrometer ID's are

COR
Focal Plane Array Autocorrelation Spectrometers (FAAS)
QEF
(16$\times$64 channel) extragalactic filter banks (5 MHz)

Note that for the QEF and COR spectrometers, the user must be sure respective PCs located in the annex which operate these instruments are powered up and that the spectrometer programs are running. Not surprisingly, these PCs are labeled "QEF" and "FAAS". To start the QEF program on the "QEF" PC, one simply types
QEF
on the QEF PC console. The user is then prompted for the operation mode. The desired mode is remote device drivers or option 1. Similarly, for the correlators, to start the FAAS program on the "FAAS" PC, one simply types
FAAS
The user is then prompted for the operation mode. The desired mode is remote device drivers or option 1. All subsequent commands to control FAAS are given within the tracking programs.
