Once the user has entered the SPEC mode, the desired spectrometer configuration needs to be defined. The user is allowed to set up four spectrometer configurations which will produce four separate scans for each observations.
Setting the spectrometer configuration is done with the CONF
keyword. To simply view the present spectrometer configuration on the
operator's console, the user
simply types CONF with no arguments. To reinitialize a given configuration,
the user issues the CONF command with a first argument identifying
which configuration and a second argument of RESET, e.g.
to clear or reinitialize the first configuration setup
CONF 1 RESET
In order to
return to one configuration from a multi-configuration setup, the user
must individually clear each and then set the first configuration.
To set a configuration, the user issues a CONF command followed by a first
argument identifying which configuration and a second argument
of string
identifiers for each spectrometer is used in conjunction with the
CONF keyword.

Note that for the QEF and COR spectrometers, the user must be sure
respective PCs located in the annex
which operate these instruments are powered up and
that the spectrometer programs are running. Not surprisingly,
these PCs are labeled "QEF" and "FAAS".
To start
the QEF program on the "QEF" PC, one simply types
QEF
on the QEF PC console. The user is then prompted for the operation
mode. The desired mode is remote device drivers or option 1.
Similarly, for the correlators,
to start
the FAAS program on the "FAAS" PC, one simply types
FAAS
The user is then prompted for the operation
mode. The desired mode is remote device drivers or option 1.
All subsequent commands to control FAAS are given
within the tracking programs.
