Enabling Tracking

The most basic telescope commands are POINT and HALT. The POINT command directs the telescope to begin tracking the source that the observer has requested. HALT will cause the telescope to stop tracking and remain at a fixed position. The POINT/HALT status is shown at the top of SCREEN 1. There are several additional commands which move the telescope to the standby (DROP) and servicing (SERVICE) positions. These commands are summarized in Table 3.1

DROP
Drop the telescope to elevation 1$^\circ$.5 (MAIN and REF coordinates are not affected.
HALT
Stop moving the telescope.
POINT
Move telescope to previously commanded position.
RAISE
Return telescope to position that preceded DROP.
SERVICE
Move telescope to service position (AZ=135$^\circ$, EL=1$^\circ$).5.
STOW
Move telescope to stow position (AZ=135$^\circ$, EL=4$^\circ$).
