Turning on the MODCOMP Computer

  1. Set the Computer to HALT (third rocker switch from left on bottom row of switches on the front panel of the MODCOMP.)
  2. Turn on BOTH main computer circuit breakers. These are located inside the front panel on MODCOMP at the bottom on the left hand side.
  3. Turn on the 2 circuit breakers under the flip-up cover on the top front of the rack with tape drive and the peripheral device switch on top of the digital interface rack to the left of rack with tape drive.
  4. Turn on all desired peripheral devices. For observers, this usually means the LEAR terminal and tape drive in the annex, and the VT100 and Modgraph terminals, the Epson Printer and Printer Buffer in the control room.
  5. Check that the "write protect" light on the disk drive located within this cabinet is off. !!! If write protect light is on, depress write protect button to turn off.
  6. Check that the green "ready" light on the front of the disk drive is on. !!! If ready light does not come on within about one minute, then there is a problem with the disk drive. Try turning it off, waiting a minute and turning it back on. If this does not solve problem then call staff.
