System Shutdown

When the telescope is to be left unattended for long periods of time (an impending New England blizzard), it is the general practice to shut the system down completely:

  1. Move Telescope to horizon with DROP command.
  2. When the telescope has reached its stow position (EL=1.5$^\circ$) terminate the tracking program by typing EXIT at the VT100 command terminal.
  3. Put subreflector drives into STANDBY and push subreflector power OFF button.
  4. Put telescope drives into STANDBY and push system power OFF button.
  5. Turn system lock key to OFF
  6. Set MODCOMP RUN/HALT switch to HALT.
  7. Turn off power to computer interfaces (3 switches on top of cabinets to left of MODCOMP).
  8. Turn off BOTH computer breakers located inside front cover of MODCOMP at bottom.
  9. Turn off triple circuit breaker switch located at the top of the middle rack of the FAAS system.
  10. Turn off all peripheral devices: Terminals, Printers, Tape Drives.
  11. Turn off the LO power by toggling switch 7 on the platform power monolith
