Rebooting the Computer

Sometimes software hangups make it impossible to continue observations and the easiest way to fix the problem is to clean the programs out of the computer's memory and start over again. However, it is good general practice to use this technique as a last resort when other attempts to rectify the problem have failed.

If rebooting the computer is necessary, then the following procedure should be followed:

  1. Put the Antenna Azimuth and Elevation drives and the 4 subreflector axis drives (A, B, C, and Y) into STANDBY MODE.

  2. Follow the instructions in section 1.1 to reload the operating system.

  3. Follow the instructions in section 1.2 to reload the tracking programs.

  4. Put the Antenna and Subreflector Drives back into COMPUTER mode.

  5. Enter POINT in the tracking programs to enable antenna motion.

!!! The user must carefully check after the tracking programs have been restarted and that all of the tracking program parameters are up to date. For most parameters, this is not a problem; but, for things like the current scan number, a computer halt (be it user or software induced) may leave these items incorrect.
